This one room cabin is located on the beach in
Loring, Alaska not far from the Naha River about 15 miles north of Ketchikan.
Loring was the site of a
saltery in the early 1900s. Later, a cannery operated in the area
and a few small cabins and homes were built to house the cannery's
employees. The cannery shut down in 1930 but remains are still
visible. The cabin is within walking distance to the small
community dock. About 6 private cabins/homes are located along the
hillside.
While you are at the cabin you
will probably see the friendly porpoises that circle in the bay out
front on most mornings. You will most likely see eagles,
hummingbirds, Stellar Jays, Loons, ducks and maybe a black bear.
Plan to spend from a few days to a week because there is a lot to do. Hike the
nature trail up the nearby Naha River or explore two nearby lakes
filled with Cutthroat, Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout. The cabin is also
adjacent to fabulous saltwater fishing including 5 species of salmon and halibut.
Fishing, beach combing, hiking, whale & bird watching are just some of the things
guests like to do. |
